For true coffee lovers, NYC may not be the best place to taste good toasted flavors but trust me, yes it is when it comes to the coolest coffe shops for a breakfast stop. While in NYC most of the days I mantained the (Spanish) tradition of having breakfast at the coffee shop, I also did the bagel and a coffee to go as any true working girl would do. So here you go, the best places in New York to have a morning kick to stay or to go or to make a pit-stop on a shopping day.

Dean & DeLuca. A kind of food paradise, hard to describe: it’s a coffee shop & gourmet foods & prepared foods market, all under the same ceiling. They have a little bar and stools near to the windows, but to me the best is to pick up your breakie, snack or lunch of the day and enjoy it on the go, otherwhise you won’t resist to have a second round! The roasted turkey sandwiches, any kind of cake portion or the yoghurt+muesli are delicious options. Be careful with the sea salt dark chocolate bar in the registers… they’re addictive – true story. | 560 Broadway, New York, NY 10012 | more locations

Petite Shell. In the corner of Lexington Ave. x 85th St. there’s a this brand new bakery where you’ll have to pass by for your weekly (daily?) dose of Nutella ‘rugelach’ – a sort of Jewish croissant. Oh-my-God! If you’re not of a sweet, don’t worry – they also bake savory croissants and pastries such as cherry and ham rolls. I never stayed in for breakfast, but I saw many people working on their thing while having their sweet treat of the day. Cosy and quiet place for it! | 1269 Lexington Ave, New York, NY 10012

Blue Bottle Coffee. From the roasting to the filtering and serving, this California based coffee does the process in full view of the customers. Have a dip in Williamsburg’s lifestyle while enjoying the smell of roasted coffee: hipster vibes, cool outfits on interesting people, a small design shop, people sitting on the windowsill, some lost tourists… If you have 5 minutes I recommend you to ask ffor your coffee and have the first sips of your breakfast on any of the communal tables before taking on the neighborhood coffee-in-hand, just to warm up ;-) | 85 Dean Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201 | more locations

Le Pain Quotidien. If there was a place where I craved going for breakfast every morning it was Le Pain Quotidien. The menu offers healthy meals for breakfast or brunch (and others not so healthy for a guilty pleasure if you desire) so I had to go back more than three times to taste many of them. Here’s my full menu for breakfast recommendation: drink a chai latte -the best in NYC from my experience-, have an avocado toast for appetizer and their yoghurt with granola and red fruits or any of the oatmeal variations for main course. End your meal with the Belgian waffle or a pain au chocolat for dessert. Voilà! Now you can walk the city with a super boost of energy and a full but happy tummy as well.

Little Cupcake Bakeshop. In the heart of NoLiTa there’s a place to sit by the window and see life happen while having breakfast. The Little Cupcake Bakeshop counters are assorted of traditional American desserts baked with sustainable ingredients that will make you mouth-watering. The small tables, the beautiful deco and quietness make of this coffee shop a good choice for working on your laptop or having a contemplative life moment. | 30 Prince St, New York, NY 10012
